Hardware Testing & Evaluation
Understanding the true value of redundant equipment
At BTR UK we are proud of our ability to unlock the residual value in equipment that has been discarded and return this to our clients.
In order for us to get to this position, each item that is for potential resale will go through a rigorous evaluation process – specialist software is used to interrogate the component functionality and each product type is investigated against an exhaustive checklist.
Products are tested and graded based upon specification and condition against pre-defined, industry standard criteria.
Subject to the result of the evaluation, the item will follow a route appropriate to its status and condition and the customer requirements of the project in question.
Results of this process are reported back to the customer.
Those products which have been graded appropriately and which the customer wishes us to resell are sent for refurbishment, possible repair and remarketing.
Those items which the customer deems are not for resale will be routed for recycling in the manner that is most environmentally friendly.
Throughout the process, maintaining customer confidentiality is paramount.
The process includes ‘orphaning’ the product from previous ownership through the removal of all client branding including :
- Asset numbers
- Barcodes
- Company logos
- Serial numbers
- Screen wallpapers
Any equipment bearing media is isolated and streamed in such a way so as to ensure maximum security. Hard disks in equipment that is for resale will have any data purged in an irrevocable and secure process that permanently removes any client data but which protects the integrity of the disk platters to ensure that the maximum resale value can be achieved.
Hard disks that are not for resale can be physically disabled or permanently destroyed to meet customer need.
See our section on remarketing for more information on how we work hard to maximise the return on our clients’ redundant assets.
