Physical Data Destruction
Where it is deemed that rather than erase data from the hard disk drive, the disk itself must be totally and permanently destroyed to ensure that it can never again be used or accessed, BTR UK offers two alterative options to guarantee absolute physical data destruction.
Hard Drive Shredding
The hard disk drive is placed in a specially designed fragmentation plant and undergoes a two-stage operation to ensure total hardware destruction. The result of this fragmentation is that the disk is reduced to granules not exceeding 20 mm in size.
These resulting granules are then carefully screened and separated into ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plus other component materials, and in line with the WEEE Directive and BTR UK's own environmental standards, the different materials are harvested for smelting and recycling back into the industrial supply stream.
No trace of the original disk, or its data, remains.
Hard Drive Drilling
As a quicker alternative for hard drive destruction we can remove the hard disk drives from their host units, whether these are PC base unit, server or laptop. A drill is then forced through the platter disk to create a hole in the central disk which houses the item's memory and data.
This simple, but effective process eliminates the hard disk drive's ability to be read, and therefore ensures that the data on the disk can never be accessed again.
Once again, in line with our commitment to environmental recycling, the hard disk drives are recycled with all component materials such as copper, steel and plastics being recovered and re-introduced back into industry.
Where security dictates, this drill-based data destruction service can be carried out on the customer's site prior to the permanently disabled disks being removed for recycling.
Wherever the physical data destruction takes place though, it is completed and witness tested by our own security cleared personnel and is certified for secure data destruction.
Official certification of the destruction and recycling is always provided to our customers.
