WEEE Compliance and the WEEE Directive

WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and the WEEE Directive, which is an EU wide Directive, was adopted into UK law in early 2007. In brief, the Directive places responsibility for the cost of all redundant electrical and electronic equipment on manufacturers and importers (the producer). It also sets targets for recovery and recycling across ten key categories (Category 3 refers to IT and Telecoms products).
What the WEEE Directive effectively means is that if you are a manufacturer, importer or brand owner selling into the Business-to-business (B2B) market then you are likely to have WEEE compliance responsibilities and obligations. Key to these obligations is the need to join one of a small number of 'Producer Compliance Schemes' approved by the Environmental Agency.
BTR UK runs a specialist Producer Compliance Scheme called WEEE Compliance UK and as part of this comprehensive scheme we may have the right solution for you.
Why is WEEE Compliance UK better than other similar schemes?
Firstly, we are specialists, dealing only with B2B electronics, IT and communications equipment.
Secondly, we concentrate on delivering the best possible value together with the highest levels of environmental commitment.
Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, although producer responsibility under the WEEE Directive is only to finance the collection and disposal of equipment (and that means some compliance schemes only provide quick collection and scrapping) at BTR UK we also offer data security, asset management services (such as asset level reporting) plus the potential for remarketing and a financial return.
With BTR UK's WEEE Compliance UK as your WEEE compliance partner you can:
- Add value to your customers
- Generate additional revenues
